OOC Note: This is my first attempt at pruning logs and posting them to the blog. I decided to opt for the simple approach and not try to take the chat logs and turn them into a more traditional looking narrative. So the log from the match below is just cleaned up a bit with some minor grammatical fixes and merging of text to make it more coherent. I’ve since pushed the actual game to a separate channel from the main Hideaway and that should make future postings much easier to modify. I have another one from last Saturday that was especially epic and if I have the time I may try to actually make it flow a bit better. Players are color coded in text to improve readability.
Kalaratiri picks up her own helmet and makes a bit of a mess trying to put it on right
Katrina Oniseki places the helmet on her head, then takes it off as she unties her ponytail, only to put the helmet back on.
Kalaratiri gets the helmet on properly, her dreadlocks making it a bit of an uncomfortable fit
Kalaratiri has a few quick attempts at forming images, managing a few bursts of colour. She tries to make something more focused, an accurate 3d image of a Rifter appearing in the air above her.
Kybernetes Moros calls to Kala, grinning. “Damnit. Couldn’t make a nice looking ship, huh.”
Kalaratiri doesn’t look at Kybernetes, but instead brings up an image of a hand with its middle finger up.
Kybernetes Moros bursts out laughing.
Katrina Oniseki figures out how to work the helmet, the first image appearing is a small orange melon which promptly falls and splatters into a gooey virtual mess. “Heh. Breakfast.”
Kalaratiri clears the image and closes her eyes, calling out to Kat, “Want to have a few goes yourself? It’s not that hard really.”
Katrina Oniseki shakes her head, “No, I’ve got it. I used to read horror stories when I was a kid… I’ve got some nice monsters.”
Kalaratiri grins to herself “Want to go first then?”
Katrina Oniseki nods at Kala.
Katrina Oniseki waits for the crowd to silence itself before closing her eyes and bringing up her first contestant. The ground shudders and blocks of virtual cement rip themselves up from the floor, stacking themselves atop one another. The body of a large and angry golem is formed, and it roars like an avalanche, belching magma. Slamming its massive ruinous fist against the ground, it glares balefully at Kala.
Kalaratiri smiles and sits calmly, a rushing noise growing quickly louder. A huge fountain of water erupts from behind Kala and crashes into the golem, pushing it back.
Katrina Oniseki pushes back with the golem, throwing it’s rocky limbs into the water before it explodes into a cloud of ethereal static. The smell of ozone laces the air as arcs of electricity snake down in Kala’s direction through the water.
Kalaratiri turns the water into liquid rubber, boiling hot. It seems across the floor towards cat bubbling and popping.
Katrina Oniseki grins as the rubber approaches her. The arcs of lightning explode into little sprites and sparks that shower around Kala. Kat, meanwhile is too late raising a wall of stone in front of the rubber, and she jerks back in her seat as she’s hit.
Kalaratiri winces as a few of the sparks brush against her skin. She creates a clear bubble of a glass like material around herself and continues to push the rubber towards Kat, the hot liquid starting to ooze around Kat, surrounding her.
Katrina Oniseki angrily yells out in reality, clenching her eyes shut as she fights off the pain. A starburst of light bellows out from her like a small nova, eating up the Rubber and giving Kat a sort of body halo. Opening her eyes, she grins at Kala. The light lances out at Kala in the blink of an eye, impacting hard against the bubble, burning and writhing and pushing itself against the bubble in an effort to break it down.
Kalaratiri flinches back then adapts the bubble, reinforcing the front by pulling material from the back. She loses control of the rubber as she is distracted and it fades into nothing.
Katrina Oniseki concentrates harder, the light coalescing into some sort of shapeless creature which begins slamming and wailing on the bubble with fists that splatter into balls of molten luminescence. It roars and makes the ground tremble with each impact.
Kalaratiri allows the outer shell of the bubble to shatter, forming razor sharp shards the dig deep into the skin of the creature.
Katrina Oniseki grows tired, and though the shards don’t affect the creature, it seems to lean back and roar again. Kat’s mind isn’t trained for this, and she’s spending too much energy too fast, and the creature sinks into the ground, fading into nothing.
Katrina Oniseki is sweating, panting in her chair.
Kalaratiri leans back herself taking the opportunity to have a small break. She lessens the bubble, so she isn’t using so much energy.
Katrina Oniseki watches Kala for a while. There’s a small buzzing sound that disappears. Then it’s heard again, a bit louder.
Katrina Oniseki smiles and winks at Kala, and a single tiny insect pops out of the ground, hovering and watching Kala too.
Kalaratiri blinks and creates a tiny Rifter in front of the insect.
Katrina Oniseki grins wider, and the insect is joined by two others. One of them bumps into another, causing them both to explode in a fireball. The third one streaks forward, under the Rifter and in Kala’s direction, slamming into the bubble. She her eyes and grunts. The moment she does, the ground heaves, the sudden unnatural roaring sound of countless millions of insects can be heard before the burst from the ground like a swelling boil bursting from skin. They swarm, blackening the arena with their numbers before streaking toward Kala, every single one slamming into the bubble if they don’t hit the Rifter first. Each one explodes, causing a tiny bit of damage… but together….concentrates as much as she can, creating an endless stream of the insects that continue boiling up from the ground as if the simulated dirt were liquid.
Kalaratiri’s bubble takes the full force of the explosions and shatters into nothing, knocking Kala backwards. Kala screws up her eyes and concentrates hard.
Kalaratiri a haze starts to spread out in front of Kala, coving the area the insects are flying through. Kala leans forward again and lights a spark.
Katrina Oniseki grins wide in joy as she gets a score, but this causes the insects to lose concentration, and they stop the elegant swarming dance around Kala, instantly turning into a blob of wild insects. As the fire rips through them, they’re gone in an instant.
Kalaratiri pants hard and wipes a hand across her face.
Katrina Oniseki chuckles slightly, and leans back in her chair. Sweat dribbles down her cheeks as if they were tears.
Kalaratiri calls out “Draw?”
Katrina Oniseki looks up and shrugs, “I’m exhausted, hah. I’d be willing to call it.”, she grins. A giant cartoonish gloved hand reaches out in expression to shake.
Kalaratiri offers her own hand, blown up in size to match Kat’s glove.
Katrina Oniseki shakes hands above the area, before reaching up in reality to take the helmet off. Her glove flickers out of view.
Kalaratiri takes her own helmet off and shakes her hair out.
Katrina Oniseki stands and stretches.. looking around at the crowd, she laughs a bit, then bows, before walking up to Kala and giving her opponent – and friend – a hug.
Kalaratiri hugs Kat back and smiles at her “Good match.”
